In general, junior NCOs are encouraged to make the unit their sole unit for a given era to concentrate their efforts on leadership. Society rules prohibit any member from being promoted to the level of sergeant or above if said member belongs to another unit of the same time period portrayed. This is to preserve the consistency, reliability, and cohesion of the command structure.
