If you are interested in joining the 35th Royal Sussex, whether you are a man or a woman, there will be a place for you as a member.  While we enjoy ourselves and always try to make every gathering fun and pleasant, we also know that we are acting as representatives of the memories of the men and women of the regiment spanning three centuries.  Therefore, we strive for excellence in our portrayals, our displays, and our behavior.  Anyone can join the Society and we welcome any questions you may have.

How old do I have to be to join?  You do not need to be any particular age to join the Society, however, young men who wish to be soldiers must be at least 18 or 16 if under parental supervision.

What do women do?   Is this family-friendly?  Yes.  Women have always played a vital role in the British army and at home.  We encourage our lady members to embrace a craft, talent, or music to help us round out the life and times we represent.  Families are encouraged to join as a whole and we are always delighted to see families together in a hobby, bonding not only with each other, but with new friends as well.

What do I need as a member?  Members of the Society are encouraged to acquire their basic clothes and kit within one year of joining.  We will assist new members as much as possible to get them acquainted with their new Georgian and/or Victorian impressions.  Reenacting a soldier can be an investment; however, it is a hobby that is very fulfilling and well worth the effort.

How often do you have events?  Usually there is a reenactment or living history display once or twice a month, almost always on the weekends.  Members and prospective members are encouraged to check our Schedule of Events to keep up-to-date on our activities.

What are the Membership Dues?  Membership dues are used to help alleviate the cost of liability insurance and purchases for the Society's general use.  The dues are $20 per year.  Checks must be written out to "Royal Sussex Society" and mailed in no later than March 1st of every year to be covered.

Can I hire out someone or the Society for a talk or display?  Yes, absolutely.  We have given presentations for schools and local historical sites in the past.  We will also be happy to talk to you about hosting a living history event or battle reenactment.
