Campaign History: Nile Expedition, 2nd Boer War
The Society seeks to recreate the appearance and life in which the soldiers of the Royal Sussex Regiment were familiar during the latter half of the Victorian era. The Royal Sussex was sent to take part of the Egyptian Campaign of 1882, and then afterwards on the Nile Expedition in the Sudan to rescue General Gordon, 1884-1885. Years later it was involved in the Boer War, often called the first modern, 'total' war.
The Society, not content with simply demonstrating the times and army life, also seeks to educate the public, via living history encampments and reenactments, as to some extent to which the British Empire played in shaping the political and cultural world today.
